So as some of you may have heard the Miami Heat resigned their superstar man, Dwayne Wade, and also brought in the other two super star free agents on the market this year, Lebron James from Cleveland, and Chris Bosh from Toronto. Well okay you have all heard. I am a little late but I want to post my thoughts on how they will play next year.
These three players are huge players and very talented at the position’s they play on the court. All of them came out of the star-studded NBA Draft of 2003. Lebron James went first overall to Cleveland, huge draft bust, Darko Milicic, went second to Detroit, fellow super star Carmelo Anthony went 3rd to Denver, then followed Chris 4th to Toronto and Dwayne 5th to Miami.
Now seven years into their career’s they have decided to team up in South Beach. Between the three they have one Championship ring (Dwayne winning it in the 2006 Miami Heat championship run). Darko Milicic the complete fail from the draft even have a ring, although it was in an un-important role when the Detroit Pistons won the title in 2004.
I’m going to start out with Chris. He is one of the best power forwards in the NBA right now. Solid in almost every way a power forward should be. The guy came to play for the Raptors and put in so much effort into the franchise. He worked so hard for Toronto to win a title, but the team never got it done, falling out of the playoffs early, or n ot making them at all. Chris did led them to their first Atlantic Division title in Franchise history though. But things never worked out in Toronto. Although he is a 5 time NBA All-Star, Chris has a weakness of his using his right hand. Very strong with the ball in his left, not as much with his right.
The problem a lot of people have with Chris’s move to Miami, is the way he kept tweeting about the free agency process. He’d tweet saying something like “Just met with Chicago Bulls. it went very well. Having dinner with Dwayne wade to discuss what’s gone on”. A lot of people took the attitude of “Shut up with the annoying tweets Chris, say where your going to play next year”. I am following him over twitter and I found it kind of weird. It’s kind of a glimpse into the future of how athletes will act with the technology we have now.
On to Lebron James. He is the two-time-defending NBA Most Valuable Player. And has also decided to play in Miami next year. He has become an icon of the NBA playing for the Cavaliers. He also is one of the best basketball players to hit the league, putting up amazing numbers for the Cavaliers in his seven years in Ohio. But he has decided to leave the state he grew up in to play in Flordia. Lebron’s closest moment to a title for Cleveland was in the 2006-2007 finals when the Cavaliers were swept by the San Antonio Spurs in 4 games.
He is still getting a lot of hatred for switching teams. He had an hour long special on ESPN to announced “The Decision”. Immediately the hate from Cleveland began. People started burning his #23 Jersey. People questioned his loyalty to his roots. Virtually no one liked Lebron James anymore. Well except for the people of Miami, who partied like there was no tommorow.
And then there’s Dwayne Wade. We have already seen him showcase his talents for the Heat. He is also a great all round guard, and has a bit of jewelry if you want proof he’s a good player.
Now this team has to win a title as soon as possible. There is an unbelievable amount of pressure on them to win multiple titles. I think that next year they can win somewhere around 55-65 games actually and will be one of the best teams in the league. I mean they have 3 super stars of course they will be good. But they have to fill their team out with minimum paid guys. It’ll be interesting to see what the whole roster looks like. The championship will be tough though. The Lakers will be tough to beat in the west, and the Celtics and Magic will be solid in the east. They will win a title I think at some point because they should play well together if they stay focused on basketball and not the new place they call home. Attention to basketball is another thing Lebron has been criticized about, and we’ll see if that trait follows him to Miami.
