Dane Cook coming to Halifax!

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

I’m going to make this quick blog post about a man. This man is Dane Cook. I’m sure there are a lot of you who have heard of him. If you haven’t I say where have you been! No I’m just joking, Dane is an American stand up comedian and actor. He has five comedy albums released. He has been involved in such movies as, Waiting… Employee of the Month, and Mr. Brooks.

Now Dane’s comedy I thoroughly enjoy. I think he’s a really great comedian, and he makes me laugh every time I hear him. I don’t even think I can begin to describe all the hilarious stuff he has said, because there is just so much. Really if you haven’t heard his comedy, it’d be quicker for you to go buy his album’s, because If I typed it all out, I’d be here a while.

And in closing, today, I found out from site owner, SL0RD, that Dane will be coming to the Metro Center in Halifax in December. (That is like a 2 1/2 hour drive from where I live)  Well, if you follow him on twitter, you may have found out by now that he is ecstatic about Dane coming, and is pretty much 110% sure he will going. Hopefully I’ll be able to go as well I don’t know how I could pass up this chance!

NASCAR Chase For The Sprint Cup Set To Go

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

So a few weeks earlier I made a blog post previewing NASCAR’s version of  the playoffs called the chase. Where the top 12 drivers through the regular season get re-aligned based on the number of wins. Well Saturday night was a great race in Richmond Virginia, and the playoff field was set.

Matt Kenseth came into the race 12th, just in the field. But struggled all night. He was never up front, and his car just was not running well. Matt ended up 25th in the race, and 14th in the standings.

Then there is Kyle Busch. The driver of the 18 car for Joe Gibbs Racing had an up and down race. But for the most part he ran inside the top 10. With kenseth’s problem’s this opened the door for Busch to jump into the chase from 14th. But it was not to be as Kyle cam up short finishing getting 5th in the race and 13th in the standings.

But Brian Vickers was the man to step up and get himself in the chase. Brian finished 7th in the race, and it gave him enough points to get past Kenseth for 12th, and keep Kyle Busch from passing him.

Throughout the whole race it was back and forth between Kyle and Brian for the final chase spot. I must it admit, it was a great race to watch. Along with the chase storyline, Denny Hamlin took home a win at his home town track.

So now the field is set. The twelve drivers (after the points have been reset based on number of wins in the regular season) are 1.)Mark Martin 5040 pts. 2.) Tony Stewart 5030 pts. 3.)Jimmie Johnson 5030 pts. 4.)Denny Hamlin 5020 pts. 5.)Kasey Kahne 5020 pts. 6.)Jeff Gordon 5010 pts. 7.)Kurt Busch 5010 pts. 8.)Brian Vickers 5010 pts. 9.)Carl Edwards 5000pts. 10.)Ryan Newman 5000 pts. 11.)Jaun Montoya 5000 pts. 12.)Greg Biffle 5000 pts.

So it’s shaping up to a very exciting and close points battle. The first chase race is next Sunday in New Hampshire.

My opinion on who will win, well I think we will see a close battle between Mark Martin,Tony Stewart, and Jimmie Johnson at the final race in Homestead. My darkhorse pick to do well is Jaun Montoya. But it’s a new season for these twelve drivers and as we have seen in the past anything can happen when a title’s on the line.

PS3 Firmware 3.0

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

So Sony have  put out a new firmware update  v3.0 avaliable to download today. This brings a few new changes to the system. I got the update today, and I am dissapointed with a few things, but there are some other features that are cool. Here’s my review on the firmware.

First off I will start with the negatives. My biggest complaint is the new look of the friends list. I do not like the look of it at all. It used to have a nice simple look, but there’s huge grey boxes around your friends names, and it will take some major getting used to for me.

Also the start up of the PS3 isnt the same, and I don’t really like it. I know it may sound like a little problem, but the music sounds really depressing to me as you start up the PS3. (Hey I just thought of an idea Sony, make it so we have a custom song to start up the PS3 to?)

And when you go to read a message now it goes to copy the original message from your friend. In my opinion that is sort of pointless. But then again it isn’t.

But now some of the good things.

The trophy system has been updated, so that you can see how far you are on your progress on the games regular trophies, and on the games add-on trophies if there are add0-on’s available, separately. Before you saw your progress on all the trophies. Now for example before this update it said I have 70% of LittleBigPlanet trophies. Now I have 80% because it has separated add on trophies from base trophies.

The new status indicator is nice. It was sort of annoying how before when you would use the in-game XMB, it would cover up the clock for a few seconds. That was kinda annoying if you just wanted to check the time right quick. Now with the new firmware, it doesn’t cover the clock.  Also the new status indicator tells you how many friends you have online, and if you there are any pending messages.

There are also shortcuts now to the Playstation Store to go to games,or videos. In Canada the video shortcut does not work, but the shortcut to games is a nice addition.

Really this firmware will take a lot of getting used to for Playstation 3 gamers, the new look of the friends list being the main thing to adjust to.

This has not been the best PS3 firmware update made avaliable (thank you 2.4 for in-game XMB & Trophies) and definently not the worst(the updates that have added almost nothing at all)

But that’s what I have to say about the latest PS3 update.
