Now I don’t now how many of you follow NASCAR, but I do. If you are familiar with the sport, you know that there is a thing called the “The Chase”. Basically it’s NASCAR’s version of a playoff. After the first 26 races of the season, the top 12 drivers in the points standings are cutoff, and then there are 10 races remaining to try and win the championship.
This season is no different from past seasons as the drivers near the cutoff line are so close in points, that it will create a lot of drama heading into the final 2 races before the chase cutoff (Atanta and Richmond being the next two tracks.)
So drivers that are in the chase now are.
-Tony Stewart #14 -Jimmie Johnson #48 -Jeff Gordon $24 -Denny Hamlin #11 -Carl Edwards #99 -Kurt Busch #2 -Ryan Newman #39 -Greg Biffle #16 -Juan Montoya #42 -Mark Martin #5 -Kasey Kahne #9 and -Matt Kenseth #17
and trying to get in are
-Kyle Busch #18 -Brian Vickers #83 -Clint Bowyer #33 -David Reutimann #00
So who do you think will make the chase?
After Bristol(the last race) the winner was Kyle Busch. This was a huge boost for his hopes on getting back in the top 12. He has won 4 races this year, but fell on some bad luck over the summer to drop him out of the top 12.
Brian Vickers has also been racing very well lately. He won Michigan prior to Bristol (his first win since his win in 2006). Brian also had a solid finish last race.
Clint Bowyer and David Reutimann have not been able to make up much ground on 12th lately. David was caught up in a wreck at Michigan, and Clint was involved in two wrecks at Bristol
My opinion on who will be the twelve drivers racing for the title? I think it will be close, but I believe Kyle Busch will get back in. Atlanta and Richmond have traditionally been good tracks for Kyle. I think that if he gets in it will come at the cost of Matt Kenseth falling out.
But I won’t count out Vickers. He will make it interesting, despite Richmond not being one of his better tracks.
So who do you think will be the twelve drivers to go racing for the Sprint Cup this year?
